Best Hotels Near Furano Ski Resort for Families
Having lived in both Biei and Furano ourselves (and now based in Asahikawa), we know that where you stay can make or break a family ski trip here — Furano’s two ski zones are on opposite sides of town, so picking the wrong base means extra transfers with tired kids in tow. Here’s a straight comparison.
Ski-In/Ski-Out: Shin-Furano Prince Hotel (Furano Zone)
Directly connected to the Furano Zone slopes — zero transfer time to the lifts. Kids’ ski/snow-play programs are available on-site, rooms use Simmons mattresses and humidifying air purifiers, and there’s a genuine variety of restaurants (Western, Japanese, robatayaki, buffet) so fussy eaters aren’t a problem. Nearby: Ningle Terrace and Tree Adventure Furano, both easy low-key activities for a rest day.
The Other Option: Furano Prince Hotel (Kitanomine Zone)
Connected to the Kitanomine Zone side of the resort, with its own onsen, golf course, and outdoor activity base (park golf, hot air balloon rides, rafting in warmer months). If Kitanomine Zone’s runs suit your family better, or you want a quieter, less resort-dense atmosphere than Furano Zone, this is the alternative — just confirm which zone you’re skiing before booking, since transferring between the two zones daily is inconvenient with kids.
Budget Option: Pensions & Guesthouses in Central Furano
If ski-in/ski-out isn’t essential, central Furano has smaller family-run pensions and guesthouses, usually a short taxi or shuttle ride from the slopes, at a fraction of the resort hotel price. Best for families comfortable with a short daily transfer in exchange for more budget for lift passes, food, or gear rental.
Which Should You Choose?
- Want zero-hassle mornings with young kids → Shin-Furano Prince Hotel
- Want a quieter base with onsen + broader activities → Furano Prince Hotel
- Tight budget, don’t mind a short transfer → Local pensions/guesthouses
